Super Dragon vs Eddie Kingston
Revolution Strong Style Tournament 2004 Quarter-Finals
National Guard Armory, Lafayette, Indiana, United States
(reviewed 05/15/2019) On commentary Dave Prazak notes that Ace Steel’s been saying that Super Dragon is just Bob Roop under a hood, which he says would make him “Rooper Dragon”. Great stuff. Also great: this match! Strong style branding in western indies is always regrettable but with shows like these IWA Mid-South hits a lot closer to the real thing than those British dickheads have ever come. These two jockey for position on the mat briefly before the hottest heads in wrestling decide to start blasting each other with strikes, which features all sorts of gross slaps and punches. Absolutely love Kingston’s wobbly sell to one of the best koppu kicks I’ve ever seen, staggering out of the corner before his hamstrings turn to jelly. Kingston’s persistence allows him to hit the uranage after several attempts but it’s not nearly enough to put away Dragon, who has a much deeper arsenal. The most violent of parties has Kingston down for the count but it’s the double stomp off the top that puts him away.
HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO SHAWN VS TAKER FROM WM25: Wish Shawn knew how to throw a good punch.
VERDICT: Slightly better than Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker from WrestleMania 25
