Daisuke Sekimoto vs Ryota Hama – BJW (01/02/2019)

Daisuke Sekimoto (c) vs Ryota Hama

BJW Strong World Heavyweight Championship

taped 01/02/2019, aired 01/12/2019

Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan

(reviewed 03/23/2019) Good in that it’s a main event Hama match. Bad in that it’s a main event Sekimoto match. That might sound glib but man am I getting tired of what that dude does in his matches. He might not be doing wildly different material from, say, what he was doing in 2012 but I think he’s leaning more and more into over-the-top emoting and it sucks the air out of any drama he’s been able to create. It doesn’t help that Hama’s slower today than he was the last time he had a BJW Strong title match, which prevents this from having the same sort of momentum that suited the Okabayashi match so well. It never gets anywhere close to being bad but it certainly feels underwhelming on some level.
