Rey Misterio Jr vs Psicosis
ECW Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
(reviewed 08/03/2018) Even better than the 2/3 falls match, with bigger spots that are made to feel even bigger. In the process of giving every move weight, though, this match falls into the Texas deathmatch trope of way too many moves being used to score pinfalls. Early on there’s good reasoning behind it with Psicosis capitalizing on a botch and braining Misterio with a chair but as time goes on the drama of it fades and fades, despite plenty of enjoyable spotty action.
HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO SHAWN VS TAKER FROM WM25: It’s a good thing late period Undertaker matches weren’t under Texas deathmatch rules, as that motherfucker would get counted down after the second spot in the match. Still, his first Mania match with Shawn managed to make a number of big spots feel huge without sacrificing a whole bunch of nearfalls on little things that weren’t worth anyone’s time. Plus they managed to provide that amount of action when they were both past 40. Easy win here.
VERDICT: Worse than Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker from WrestleMania 25
