Zack Sabre Jr (c) vs Chris Brookes
RPW British Heavyweight Championship
York Hall, Bethnal Green, Greater London, England, United Kingdom
(reviewed 11/05/2017) Lanky boys collide for the richest prize in RevPro! This isn’t the first time I’ve seen these two square off (not even in RPW), but it’s the first time I’ve seen them have a singles match together and it’s a strange matchup. Being similar in style and body but just different enough to make it weird, it’s not the sort of match that looks like it’d work on paper but it comes out alright in the end. Brookes isn’t an international talent on the level of Zack but has more than enough ability to spring some big moves on him and send the champ scrambling. In turn Zack has to get vicious, doing so here in a few delightful moments, while also relying on his reversal game. The latter is at peak form in this match. I can’t recall another ZSJ match where there were so many interesting and realistic reversals to moves, ones that grabbed my attention instead of making me roll my eyes. Zack’s recent heel turn helps this match a lot but even with that there’s sort of a lack of emotion here, something that’s helped by their more colorful partners in the tag team matches I’ve seen these two in. Still, this is hardly a bad performance from either man and something well worth watching if you’re a fan of these two.
