Josh Bodom (c) vs Jushin Liger
RPW British Cruiserweight Championship
York Hall, Bethnal Green, Greater London, England, United Kingdom
(reviewed 11/05/2017) Fun follow-up to the British J Cup squash. The basically run the same story back, with Bodom again rushing in and finding some early success with it before Liger turns things around and is able to hit the Liger Bomb that put the champ away last time. Bodom’s able to survive it this go around and from there Liger’s just sort of got no answer for this kid, who quickly takes control with his athleticism and unloads a series of his usual spots before picking up the win with his teeter totter piledriver. With the last match I was hoping for something with more meat on it but here the meat we get is a little underdone, I think. I feel that Bodom was scared to really lay it into Liger here and Liger, who’s already well past his prime, wasn’t used to doing a speedy little match with someone who was pulling punches. They mostly get on the same page by the end but it’s too little too late, with this unsatisfying seven minute outing feeling less enjoyable in the end than the previous three minute bout.
