Jimmyz (Ryo “Jimmy” Saito, Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!!, & Jimmy Susumu) vs Over Generation (CIMA, Dragon Kid, & Takehiro Yamamura)
taped 06/10/2017, aired 06/26/2017
Hakata Starlanes, Fukuoka, Japan
(reviewed 09/16/2017) Somehow an even more meandering tag match than usual in Dragon Gate, dragged down further by a Hakata Starlanes crowd that I always manage to hate. Still, there’s some quality hidden in the rushes here, unsurprisingly revolving around young Yamamura. He shows a lot of life throughout the match but really manages to shine in the finishing sequence, during which Jimmyz unload some of their big signatures on the youngster and he manages to survive. He gets a shot against Genki and takes it, swinging wildly with a series of roundhouse kicks that are not the flashiest, not the most well-placed, and rely heavily on thigh-slapping, but they’re perfectly in line with what a desperate kid with less than two years of experience would use on a veteran in a big main event setting. Thankfully he follows those up with his Stardust Press that always looks good, so he knows where the money’s at even if he’s publicly stated that he wants to be a big kick guy. Aside from that there’s not much of note, unless you want to include a genuinely funny spot of SaiRyo actually briefly locking on the Cycling Yahoo for the first time in a good long while. A forgettable main event on a forgettable show, but if you’re searching for Yamamura gold, there’s some to be found here.
