Jimmyz (Ryo “Jimmy” Saito & Jimmy Kagetora) & Masaaki Mochizuki vs MaxiMuM (Masato Yoshino, Ben-K, & Kotoka)
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan
(reviewed 09/13/2017) Another good Jimmyz vs MMM tag but one that’s a little underwhelming, I think. Made sure to watch this one because the idea of MaxiMuM vs Mochizuki tickled me to no end, but the Jimmyz team he’s rolling with isn’t quite at full strength and no one here is quite at the top of their game, so we get a solid B+ match instead of a strong A. Still, there’s a lot to enjoy. It’s pretty heated whenever any of the Jimmyz are in there with the new unit (with most of this intensity, strangely, coming from SaiRyo) and Mochizuki is more than happy to kick some fresh unit ass with a couple of pals. There’s not a strong narrative running through the whole thing, but a handful of talented wrestlers going out there and running through a bunch of exciting spots in front of a hot crowd that loves it is almost always going to be worth something. And in the end there’s still a nice emotional finish to the match as Kotoka picks up the win in what is probably his first major pinfall in well over a year.
