Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr, & Takashi Iizuka) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, & Michael Elgin
Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan
(reviewed 08/13/2017) Your usual “everyone’s tired after a long, hard tour so let’s just brawl a bunch and hit our big stuff” six man tag, aided by one noteworthy matchup that I’d like to see more. Suzuki and Ibushi have only had four matches together, only one of which was a singles match that I oddly don’t recall. Their interactions here are a lot of fun and something I hope I get to see more of soon. In any case, there’s not a lot here, but what we get is enjoyable enough. Suzuki and ZSJ carry most of the match with their reliably good striking, technical work, and nastiness. Along with that, we get some indignation from Ibushi, some strongman stuff from Elgin, some shouty brawling from Iizuka, and some arm selling from a very injured Tanahashi. Altogether it makes for an enjoyable enough midcard tag match and hopefully a portend of things to come.
