Tomohiro Ishii vs Bad Luck Fale – NJPW G1 Climax 27 Day 13

Tomohiro Ishii vs Bad Luck Fale

G1 Climax Block A Match

08/04/2017

Item Ehime, Matsuyama, Japan

(reviewed 08/09/2017) Solid match here, one that surprised me in fun ways. It’s quite hard to do a match when there’s such a size disparity between two wrestlers and the smaller wrestler isn’t a highflier, but these two continued to make it work in their third singles match together. Mostly it works because of how scrappy Ishii is and Fale can hang when he wants to, so it makes for a nice little underdog bruiser vs monstrous bruiser sort of match. Even then, there are shockingly good moments of quality, such as Ishii’s big clothesline, his Glimmering Warlock, and Fale’s attempted Grenade reversal of the sliding forearm. Ishii’s arm work is a little laughable and it goes longer than it probably should even at just under 12 minutes, but all in all it’s enjoyable stuff.
