Bad Luck Fale vs Zack Sabre Jr – NJPW G1 Climax 27 Day 7

Bad Luck Fale vs Zack Sabre Jr

G1 Climax Block A Match

07/26/2017

Sendai Sun Plaza, Sendai, Japan

(reviewed 07/30/2017) A worrisome matchup, considering ZSJ’s mixed record against giants and how easy it is for a Fale match to fly off the rails. But for the most part, this came out ok. ZSJ employed his usual eye roll-inducing method of slithering around his much larger opponent to trap them in a series of limp-wristed submission holds, but he dialed it back a bit here, which helped. What’s more, past the opening minute or so, he employed more traditional means of taking down big men, most of which was perfectly enjoyable. Fale in turn played his role fairly well, bumping and rolling when need be, tossing around his rag doll of an opponent when the time came. It’s not mindblowing in any stretch of the imagination, but after Ishii/YOSHI-HASHI, I’m dying for something that was at least competent and not completely listless.
