Moose & War Machine (Raymond Rowe & Hanson) vs Cheeseburger & The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe)
2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
(reviewed 05/26/2016) Cheeseburger gon’ get got in this match, and I am ready for it. Goddamn, shows like this really make me like ROH. It’s bizarre how different they are on house shows and how unlikeable their product is on TV and PPV most of the time, though you could really argue it’s always been that way throughout their history. Match begins and progresses about the way you’d imagine, but it’s not unenjoyable, helped along by the charisma that three or four of these men have in spades. There’s a spot where Cheeseburger hits a bunch of elbows on all three of his opponents and follows it up with a trio of shoteis before eating tandem big boots from all three men, and the collision of these men’s boots is one of the grosser things I’ve seen in wrestling this year. The match turns into a big ol’ brawl following some really fun dives from the smaller team. Rowe hits a real sick-looking superman punch on Jay Briscoe (who sells it very well himself), and it’s easily the best thing I’ve ever seen him do in his career. The big run of finishers towards the end is likewise pretty enjoyable. Really, this match ain’t bad at all. I actively dislike War Machine and I tend to be sort of mixed on Moose, but for a basic “big guys doing a bunch of moves” tag match, it was well worth my time. Wish ROH delivered this kind of quality where it matters the most.
