Doi Darts Ten Man Tag Team Match
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan
(reviewed 01/02/2016) AH SHIT MOTHERFUCKERS, IT’S TIME FOR DOI DARTS. I’ve heard mixed things about this particular match, but it should be a barrel of fun in any case considering the situation. It’s amazing how much DG has changed in the year since this match happened. They start as you’d imagine, with everyone squaring off and getting a minute or so to shine with some high-effort lucharesu bullshit. Less than two minutes into the match, Mochi clocks Stalker with a kick and pins him for the token Stalker early match end. When the match is restarted, they do a good job teasing the exact same spot with either man getting a fairly convincing nearfall from it. Likewise, they tease the dissension between Shingo and YAMATO that basically goes on to define the entire year in Dragon Gate. Aside from that, this is basically all comedy/character stuff, which is tons of fun but a little underwhelming considering the amount of “real” talent here. What “actual wrestling” there is, such as a sequence between Shingo and Fujii, is desperately lacking the usual fire these lot have (though the finishing stretch with Shingo and Tozawa delivers). In a lot of ways this feels like a lesser version of the four-way trios match from 03/06/2015 (right down to the repetition of a few spots), though this is a good deal funnier than that. Still, I like this match a lot, and it has some plenty of the usual sort of goofy DG goodness, so if you can tolerate (or dare I say enjoy) that, then this will probably be worth your time.
