The Leaders of the New School vs Los Ingobernables de Japon – RPW/NJPW Global Wars UK 2016 Day 2

The Leaders of the New School (Zack Sabre Jr & Marty Scurll) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & SANADA)

Walthamstow Assembly Hall, London, England, United Kingdom

(reviewed 12/12/2016) This match could go one of two ways, and due to the fact that I didn’t know anyone who attended this particular show live, I’m not sure which way it went in the end. So I guess I’m about to find out. Listening to British people try to say “Los Ingobernables” is fucking HILARIOUS. Equally hilarious are Naito’s antics regarding getting in the ring. The opening minutes of the match see plenty of antics, plenty of character work from all four men, and plenty of arm work on SANADA from the LDRS, quite enjoyable stuff. Eventually, Naito trips Zack up as he bounces off the ropes and the match breaks down with brawling all over the venue. The advantage swings back and forth between both teams, pretty bland stuff until Naito tags in against Scurll. Scurll grabs the man in his finger breaker spot and Naito, unaware of the danger he’s in, shrugs it off, smirking at his opponent before doubling over in pain and slumping to the mat when Scurll snaps his fingers apart. Great stuff there. The match breaks down again with lots of action back and forth, highlighted by a great flying triangle from ZSJ on Naito and a great tornado DDT from Naito on ZSJ, and eventually Naito picks up the win with the Destino on Zack. Nothing special, but man, what a fun match here, a total goofball house show main event that was neither the main event nor on a house show. The meat of this matchup was just watching these four personalities interact, and while it’s far less intense than I’m sure most people would prefer, the “actual wrestling” is pretty ok too. It won’t blow your socks off by any means, but this is a rather enjoyable bout.
