Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr & Lance Archer) (c) vs Big in USA (Chris Hero & Colt Cabana)
GHC Tag Team Championship
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan
Now here’s an interesting bout. Two gaijin teams, one face and one heel, in a promotion that doesn’t take too kindly to outsiders, and Stan Hansen is here as the commissioner authorizing the title match. Fun situation. This is a fun match, too, at least here in the beginning, as everyone’s moving a bit faster than you’d think they’d be able to (or often do) at their size, and there’s plenty of stiff, fiery strikes that the crowd appreciates, as well as heel chicanery they dislike. Hero in particular is a completely different beast here than he is in the States, and it’s a sight to see. Man, as I’m watching this in March of 2016, it’s incredible to see a NOAH show with a crowd this lively and full, and happy to see four guys who are putting on a fun pro wrestling-ass pro wrestling match for them, and it really helps my experience watching this match. Like, this wouldn’t feel out of place on a Mid-South card in the 80’s, and while I can’t say it’s a match of the year contender or anything, it’s a fun time at the movies for the whole family and it doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s simple and logical and entertaining and taking place in the best venue for wrestling in the world. Catch this if you can.
